What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced RAY-key) is an energy-based healing and wellness practice that has roots dating back 2500 years ago but was most recently rediscovered over 100 years ago by Mikao Usui (1865-1926) in Japan. It is a gentle, non-invasive relaxation and stress reduction technique that enhances the body's natural healing abilities. It works on physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual levels to promote overall well-being and balance. Reiki is safe, requires no specific beliefs, and is beneficial for people of all ages.

Why Reiki?
About 15 years ago, an injury to my neck triggered a chain reaction that led to chronic pain, fatigue, tinnitus, brain fog, fibromyalgia, and an eventual manifestation of lyme disease due to my compromised immune system. After being nearly bed-ridden for 2 years and exhausting all avenues of Western medicine, I began to explore alternative medicine which led me to the realization you need to advocate for your own healing and you have the power to heal from within yourself. After many years of consistent and persistent implementation of mind, body, and spirit work, I am now in a position to put my lifetime of studies together so that I can help those suffering from either acute or chronic dis-ease (both physical and mental). It makes me so happy to help those who strive to enjoy their best life!

FAQ
How can Reiki help me?
Since Reiki addresses physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects, it can assist with various conditions in multiple ways. Consider Reiki if you:
How is Reiki administered?
Reiki practitioners are trained to channel pure life force energy, which flows through all living things, without sharing their own energy with clients. This balanced energy is delivered through a series of hand positions, with the practitioner placing their hands lightly on or just above the client's body. Clients remain fully clothed, and no oils or massage techniques are used during a Reiki session.
What does Reiki feel like?
Experiences during a Reiki session can vary widely. However, deep relaxation is the most commonly reported sensation. Other common feelings include warmth, cold, a sense of lightness or heaviness, and tingling. Some people may also see colors with their eyes closed. The amount a person feels during a session does not correlate with the effectiveness of the treatment. Individual awareness can differ greatly from one person to another and from one session to the next. Reiki works on multiple levels, some of which are very deep and beyond our conscious awareness. It is also common for people to relax so deeply that they fall asleep, which is perfectly fine and does not affect the treatment in any way.
How will I feel after the session?
Most people report feeling deeply relaxed both during and after a Reiki session. Other common outcomes include feeling lighter, unburdened, experiencing less pain, feeling well-rested, more balanced, and easygoing. Positive effects can occur on physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual levels, often lasting for days, weeks, or even longer for some individuals.
Occasionally, you may feel a bit down, moody, or experience physical symptoms such as a headache or tiredness, indicating a healing reaction. Typically, this cycle of processing and release resolves within a couple of days, leading to a state much better than before the Reiki treatment. If you experience any discomfort, remember this is actually a positive sign that significant healing is occurring. If you are concerned, please contact your practitioner.
Is Reiki safe?
Reiki is completely safe as it is based on life force energy that is naturally inherent in all living things. It cannot cause harm and is suitable for people of any age or health condition, as well as plants and animals. Reiki practitioners do not prescribe substances or interfere with medical treatments. Reiki complements traditional care and is not a replacement for it, which is why it is referred to as a complementary therapy rather than an alternative therapy.
Can Reiki cure illness and disease?
Reiki is a complement to traditional medical care and is not promoted as a cure for specific diseases or conditions. However, patients who receive Reiki often report better tolerance of various medical treatments, pain reduction, a more positive outlook, and an increased ability to manage stress. These effects can support individuals on their healing journey and help their bodies respond more positively to medical treatments. Due to these benefits, an increasing number of healthcare facilities are incorporating Reiki into their programs.
Is there scientific proof regarding the effectiveness of Reiki?
Yes, there is! Instead of just providing a long list of studies and articles, we encourage you to start your research at PubMed and connect with the Center for Reiki Research to learn more.
When should I make my next appointment?
Your Reiki practitioner may recommend a follow-up appointment based on your session. Common suggestions range from a week to two weeks or longer. Ideally, regular sessions should be part of your routine to help maintain balance and well-being.
Keep in mind that it takes time for imbalances to develop, so multiple sessions may be beneficial in reversing these imbalances.

I’ve been coming to Jim for Reiki for a couple of months now and it’s made a big difference in my mobility. Having been an athlete all my life, it’s taken a toll on my body. Reiki has been a great addition to physical therapy and allows me to continue playing sports.
